Artem V. Vasiliev, human2stay chief-editor (Russia), 27/05/2010

This is the annual editor's message which closes the 1st season of human2stay 2009/2010.

When you cried last time and, if no secret, for what reason?

It seems I had much more time than all the project participants to think over and write down these five answers. The truth is that I started write this yesterday evening. Of course, I've tried to prepare during the year, even noting the most curious occurrences when I shed tears. But my hard disk was broken down several times, so all these stories were lost.

Like many others, I can't remember quickly when was the last time I cried. But I cry less often about the bad things, since this project was launched.

There are some events during our life, when it seems as there is no way out. That could be tragic circumstances or such assessment of them. At that time, what's the thing to do?

Ironically, every time after saying that we do not have a universal solution, we offer the same one to solve the problem: slow down, be quiet, and turn on the mind, after the feelings subside.

That is extremely significant - we do know this solution even when we don't admit to ourselves. So congratulations on this unanimity!

Could you please choose any event of last days, weeks or months, that has distressed you? It can be any happening on a local or international scale. How could you comment on it?

We sent more than 1.000 invitations for the public people to take part. There was about one hundred consents, and a half of them have declined after reading the questionnaire. Indeed, I understand that there's equally difficult to answer key questions both if you're hungry, working for food, or if you are one satisfied who doesn't have to go anywhere on Monday morning.

However, it really was stressful for me to be refused. But every time after getting such a flat "no", we've got another beautiful spokesperson again and again. During the year, our speakers were both novice artists and professionals who have got millions of fans in their home countries and abroad. We had no advertising, but we've got many speakers who spent their time and strength to share the good with others.

And we say thanks a lot to all of you, both readers and participants, who've made this project appreciable. Thanks to all, we are not unknown anymore.

There's always a new danger watching for humanity in its way, always a new temptation we're ready succumb to. What's the danger of our days? And what's the way to avoid this trap?

A lot of dangers were mentioned by the speakers, and it is always interesting to compare. There's a common view about the robots threat to humanity. Personally I don't believe that we'll see them on streets in the near future.

The first reason is that robots production, just like any other high-tech industry, would like to get an incredible volume of money for making this product on a mass scale. And there is still a long way to develop a cost-effective production. Second, this is the question of the consumer culture. Walking around the streets means to be in danger for robots in the first instance. Will they be allowed to take up arms in self-defense? The human security starts here, and this will meet huge resistance by the people.

What much more likely is that we lose our actual security when worrying about those, yet distant, things. I'm absolutely sure, that our today's occurrences, all that we're doing, talking and thinking by ourselves, is fraught with risks much more than an unknown future.

Through the very first year of human2stay.com, dozen thousands of people have come to the website, read at least one interview, and were inspired for the good things to do, to think, or to feel. But, okay... It must be admitted that we've met a lot of robots here! You know, they made about 30 thousands visits to the website. So, definitely, robots would like to be involved, too.

What are the main obstructions to apply humanities principles at our today's life? Could they be solved?

We cannot ignore the bad news, of course. The most of them are telling us what might have been avoided if we had took care of those or other things. But the guideline to "tend one's garden" seems to be the most appropriate under existing conditions. We've discovered a lot of characters over the past year. They're tending their gardens, and this is an example to follow.

At the same time, these first questions were taken too seriously by some respondents. Promoting positive on the World Wide Web, we'll ask another five in the next season of human2stay.
