Tony Tomas, singer (Romania, Norway), 26/03/2010

Known also as Tony Tomas, Tony Poptamas was born in Romanian Transylvania. He moved to Norway in 1999. Today Tony is a music & lyrics writer, working on his second album with his own songs. He is also a great performer, a well-known entertainer and has a lot of experience in this business. Actually, he finished 4th in 2006's Romanian Eurovision Song Contest preselection, 2nd in 2007, and 2nd in 2010.

In his concerts Tony only plays the guitar and sings, but on weekend gigs he does both guitar and keyboards, and plays all kinds of music: pop, rock, disco, techno, dance, latin, reggae, folk - but he is especially appreciated for the way he performs country. His voice is often confused with Garth Brookss. People are astonished by the way that he performs norwegian party songs, which can be hard to sing even for a native. Being married in Norway, he talks norwegian almost like an arab from Haugesund. This is a west-coast expression for somebody who can be easily confused with a local.

When you cried last time and, if no secret, for what reason?

Well, you know, this is something we just can't stop sometimes. I was on a TV-show in the town where I was born, down in Romania, where my parents live. The moderator asked me why did I leave Romania ending up in Norway. Oh my God, that was really hard to take for me, so I just had to take a moment to cry it out. The reason was that seeing Mom and Dad so seldom it seems like they're growing old much faster.

There are some events during our life, when it seems as there is no way out. That could be tragic circumstances or such assessment of them. At that time, what's the thing to do?

I may seem a weak person but I'm the opposite. When I come to a situation like that, I fight against the bad side of it but I always hope and actually know that it's going to be OK. So was, for example, when I had to accept that my daughter has celiac disease but it took just a few months to get used to it.

Could you please choose any event of last days, weeks or months, that has distressed you? It can be any happening on a local or international scale. How could you comment on it?

It was Eurovision Song Contest! It took like six weeks of being away from Norway, six weeks of preparations and investments, distressed me in such way that I started to forget the lyrics of some of 1500 songs from my repertoire. But I guess that's understandable.

There's always a new danger watching for humanity in its way, always a new temptation we're ready succumb to. What's the danger of our days? And what's the way to avoid this trap?

Tell me about it. I have two kids, and when I look in their eyes, I think: Oh my God, how are they going to be? What if the world is changing in bad? This is probably a question every parent asks, and the answer is very simple: We have to do everything in our power to save the world by acting properly on every situation that may come up. If we don't do that... we or future generations may regret. In other way, and I mean technologically, it is going at such speed that I don't think we can stop it anymore.

What are the main obstructions to apply humanities principles at our today's life? Could they be solved?

Pollution, war between countries, child abuse, religion, overpopulation are just a few of today's problems. And yes, they can still be solved. I don't know for how long we have that chance though.
