Patrick Ouchène, singer (Belgium), 26/04/2009

Patrick Ouchène adores the 'fifties lifestyle'. He proudly wears a classic 'duck tail haircut'. As 'Elvis' he acted in ads and TV commercials and in feature films. Patrick produced 7 full CD's that easily found their way in the specialised rockabilly-circuit and through other music clubs and venues.

His biggest success so far is 'Je Suis Swing' which he recorded with his band 'the Dominos' for EMI France. In 1991 this single rocketed into the French Top 10. All this resulted in hundreds of live gigs on festivals and in clubs. Patrick is also the president of an association called 'ask4', which undertakes to organise 'fifties events', some of which in cooperation with the City of Brussels. In 2009 Patrick was chosen to represent Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow.

When you cried last time and, if no secret, for what reason?

I guess it was after a break up with my girlfriend last summer. She's been leaving for California. Then we meet again in Mexico few weeks later. And now everything is ok.

There are some events during our life, when it seems as there is no way out. That could be tragic circumstances or such assessment of them. At that time, what's the thing to do?

Fight fight fight! First I let myself going real down, then a power come out from the bottom and I stand up and fight. After rain comes the rainbow. Look what happend to me with this Eurosong contest!

Could you please choose any event of last days, weeks or months, that has distressed you? It can be any happening on a local or international scale. How could you comment on it?

Well the madness of this non sense world put me down. I think the religion do a return in our society in the wrong way, even dangerous. As the 'god' money seems to loose it's power, the old religion comes back, and I don't think it does fit a modern way of life.

There's always a new danger watching for humanity in its way, always a new temptation we're ready succumb to. What's the danger of our days? And what's the way to avoid this trap?

Radical religion attract people, that's a danger, and in our country it's the ghost of the fascism, or extreme right, who got the favor of the tired population. Our european government are responsable of this. On the one hand, they let too much freedom to the radicals from every religion. And by the other hand, by the inaction, they bring a fear. Population became extremist like in the 30's, very dangerous.

My solution: more education, more control on the words spreading by preacher of all religion, and a less control on the media by the politics.

What are the main obstructions to apply humanities principles at our today's life? Could they be solved?

Well the modern world is the main danger and the savior too. As the financial competition push every government to go more and more in a unhuman society, a too big amount of human being are let at the size, and we are near to a revolution organised by extremist (religious, and fascist). All together helped by internet, quick flight, etc.

We're destroying our earth, the nature will more and more react against the danger. In one word we need to learn again the 'RESPECT' for the nature, animals, and of course humanity.
