Hera Björk Þórhallsdóttir is a well-known singer in Iceland. Her debut solo album 'Ilmur af Jólum' was released in November 2000, the second one - 'Hera Björk' - in 2006. She has worked with many of Iceland's finest musicians and has taken part in several musicals in her homeland. |
When you cried last time and, if no secret, for what reason? I am a tough cookie so I don't cry much... Unless animals and children are involved. But of course I cry occasionally and usually it's because of happiness! The last time I cried was when I read an essay my son wrote in school and the topic was: "Who is your favorite person?" - He is 6 years old and wrote: "Mamma is my favorite person because she is so kind to me and so much fun to be around" :) And his mother totally cried in front of his teacher ;-D
There are some events during our life, when it seems as there is no way out. That could be tragic circumstances or such assessment of them. At that time, what's the thing to do? I have had my share of sadness in life and it can be very difficult to handle these moments. I have reacted in the right and in the wrong way. Then again, I believe there's no "wrong" way to react and it is only for me as a person to decide if it was right or wrong. Everyone can have their opinion but in the end it's me that has to live with my decisions and reactions to the world. In my most hopeless situation was best, at that time, to do nothing and today I am very glad that I did... Otherwise I would be a whole other person I believe. And I like me the way I am!
Could you please choose any event of last days, weeks or months, that has distressed you? It can be any happening on a local or international scale. How could you comment on it? The Eruption in Eyjafjallajökull in my home country is the event that has struck me the most lately! It is overwhelming but yet leaves me in awe because of the massive power nature has over us tiny humans. Here in Iceland we are so lucky to have a fantastic group of people working on security and rescue and they are doing their best to keep us informed on things so that we feel a bit more safe. This rescue team was for instance the first to arrive to Haiti in their hour of need so we are very proud of them as well. Everyone here is focused on coming out of this still standing strong.
There's always a new danger watching for humanity in its way, always a new temptation we're ready succumb to. What's the danger of our days? And what's the way to avoid this trap? I am very focused on eating habits these days! It is my believe that if we don't change our way of eating and living then we are handing a pretty bad legacy over to our children. I feel very responsible about this and I am determined to do my best to teach my children the facts about food and health. I have been overweight for too many years but I have changed my diet more towards vegetables and fruits - and the difference in mood, skin and mind is unbelievable!
What are the main obstructions to apply humanities principles at our today's life? Could they be solved? We need to understand that everything we put our attention to grows and nourishes, both the things we like and the things we don't like. If we start loving ourselves the way we are and focus on all the great things in life, us humans would enjoy life much more!
